RESUMO

Objective: As part of COVID-19 pandemic control efforts, digital proof-of-vaccination credentials were launched in Canada in 2021-2022 following widespread vaccine availability. Given the controversy over proof-of-vaccination credentials-often colloquially called vaccine or immunization "passports"-it is imperative to document successes, shortcomings, and recommendations for any future uses. Methods: This expert consultation applied inductive qualitative content analysis to online video interviews with key informants whose expertise ranged from ethics to public health to computer science to identify what we can learn from this experience with proof-of-vaccination credentials, and what decision-makers must keep in mind for possible future use of such technologies. Results: There remains a lack of consensus regarding appropriate language and scope for digital proof-of-vaccination technologies, the respective roles of the technology sector versus government in design and implementation, and parameters for future use. However, experts agree on many recommendations, including the importance of clear communication, evidence-based rationale for the use of proof-of-vaccination credentials, multidisciplinary consultation including academic experts and the public, and the importance of pan-Canadian standards for accessibility and interoperability. Identified risks of use that emerged, and should be minimized in the future, include risks of coercion and backlash; threats to access, equity and privacy; and impacts such as costs of the technology and workload burden of enforcement and fraud detection. Conclusions: There is much to learn from this first major use of digital proof-of-vaccination credentials. A full scientific review of the impacts on health and equity should be combined with expert recommendations to create pan-Canadian guidelines for the future use of digital proof-of-vaccination solutions.

RESUMO

A major issue facing society is the extent to which the usability of the digital evidence base is at risk because, in the digital era, the concept of the record has been eroded. The nature and reality of a record are no longer agreed. Addressing the challenges that the digital presents for managing records and assuring their future usability is not one that records and archives scholars and professionals can tackle alone. This article argues that this is a 'grand challenge' which requires a broad range of perspectives and expertise and convergence research to resolve. It discusses findings from an international multidisciplinary research network established to critically explore, through a grounded theory approach, the nature of a digital record and the implications of the digital era for the usability and functionality of the future evidence base. A series of different visions of a digital record emerged alongside a wide-ranging set of research questions that form the basis of an agenda for future collaborative (convergence) research.

RESUMO

Although much has been written on the archival principle of provenance and the centrality of records creation to archival practices and processes, there has been little exploration of how records creation is figured and enacted across specific archival sites and spaces. This article centers records creation in two digital archives of feminist materials: Alternative Toronto and Rise Up! Feminist Digital Archive with the aim of demonstrating records creation as an imaginative and fabulatory process of meaning-making. By decentering the notion of a singular, remarkable creator in favor of a multiplicity of creating contexts and actors, Rise Up! and Alternative Toronto enable imaginative acts of records creation that play with the spatial and temporal boundaries of records, pushing them into new, oftentimes unanticipated relationships to other records, users, and intervenors. In this article, I propose that provenancial fabulation can be characterized through four dimensions: first, it plays with contradictory records contexts putting them in conversation with one another; second, it troubles the order and organization of the past; third, it extends the temporal and spatial boundaries of historical records and accounts; and fourth, it acts infrastructurally to circulate ideas, imaginaries, narratives, and relationalities. In creating and configuring digital records according to feminist understandings of archival value and historical continuity, Alternative Toronto and Rise Up! demonstrate provenancial fabulation as a structuring force in the circulation of feminist knowledges and desires.

This study reflects on the preservation of digital archival records from a systemic perspective, based on standards recognized by scientific literature. In such a way, it uses a holistic view to emphasize the relevance of preservation to be considered throughout the life cycle of records. The methodology is based on a bibliographic survey composed of articles, books, and technical publications, to obtain a narrative review. It is noteworthy that digital preservation has evolved to new heights, and requires the use of standards to implement reliable computer systems. With this, the entire life cycle can be involved in an uninterrupted chain of custody capable of ensuring the authenticity of digital records. Finally, a systemic-holistic approach is advocated, in which records are planned and produced with a view of the preservation and access in the long-term.

Abstract This research was carried out with the aim to determine the main systemic factors that cause edentulism in patients attending the Dental Clinic, in order to enhance patient education concerning the relationship between toothloss and with general health, as well as the causes and consequences of edentulism. For this study, a sample of 954 records was acquired from the last four months of the year 2017. These records were evaluated to obtain a number of 108 patients with systemic factors, the overall participants for this study.
